From the ED
We did something different with our seasonal mailing this year. We enclosed a card our donors could fill out, to send back
good wishes to the Hospital. What a wonderful outpouring of support! We received over one hundred cards, which we posted
outside the cafeteria for all to see. They ranged from the funny (a variety of doctors took a look inside - their sewing
isn't bad! ) to the inspiring (you saved my life - I can never repay you). In all cases, they reminded me of the way that
Guelph General Hospital makes such an important difference in people's lives. For the hospital staff as well, what a wonderful boost.
And the mailing? We raised $94,590 from 951 donors. These funds will help with our MRI, Emergency Mental Health Unit and Vascular Surgery projects.

Helping patients flow like "Flo"
Many Guelph General Hospital patients who are ready to be discharged will have a smoother transition to the next stage of their care, thanks to an innovative partnership between the hospital and the Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre. The new partnership was known as the "Flo Collaborative."

Breaking News
Recently, the Hospital announced changes to its bed complement. The results will be a net reduction of 16 beds at GGH, and an annual savings of $1 million. The changes are planned in conjunction with new programs being put in place in the community to help care for “Alternate Level of Care” patients - those patients who no longer need to be in a hospital bed, but are waiting for a more appropriate place. Hospitals must have a balanced budget, and the bed reduction is part of our plan to accomplish this for 2009/2010.
